Infill Housing Scheme, Hackney
Client
London Borough of Hackney Council
Scope
Trigon have worked as part of wide design team, in collaboration with the London Borough of Hackney Council and XCO2 on a new social-housing regeneration scheme that seeks to continue to tackle the boroughs housing crisis of affordable housing by delivering more than 400 high quality, sustainable new homes across new housing-led projects on underused council housing land, along with complementary uses and improvements to public realm and shared settings.
The scheme is set out over nine different sites throughout the borough, led by different design teams, with the aim of achieving the seven thematic goals of Hackney’s regeneration plan, including contributing to Hackney’s sustainability objectives, creating better homes and neighbourhoods, and involving residents meaningfully.
Our responsibilities included:
Providing ongoing fire engineering support across all sites to deliver fire safety strategy reports suitable to support planning submissions.
Although primarily a social housing delivery programme, there are several opportunities to strengthen the local services across some sites through the delivery of mixed-use schemes. Trigon have supported the design team to develop fire safety strategies suitable for planning submission, addressing the mixed-use nature of the schemes.
Additionally, as part of our ongoing appointment, Trigon have been involved in delivering various CPD sessions to all design teams, including those led by standalone architect teams; an initiative from the London Borough of Hackney to ensure a diverse range of design principles across all sites.
Results
David Bostelmann, Trigons Project Director has said that “The London Borough of Hackney Council is an ambitious client, setting the bar for fire safety very high. The council have a brilliant vision to provide high-quality sustainable homes, predominantly for council rent. Working with the council on the redevelopment of existing sites has been challenging, but exciting, from a fire safety perspective. The programme has exposed how creative we can be when designing affordable homes. We have truly enjoyed being involved in this scheme”.
