Scope
Trigon were appointed by King’s College School, Wimbledon to provide fire engineering support on the design of a new prep school located in Wimbledon. The proposed development designed by Jestico+Whiles will provide a variety of academic and recreational spaces for up to 370 pupils over three storeys. The project involved integrating the proposed school, and its associated outdoor recreation areas, with the slope of the site and with consideration of adjacent existing developments. The guidance of Building Bulletin 100 was used in the fire safety design of the new King’s College Junior School.
Our responsibilities included:
Liaising with the design team and providing fire engineering support during RIBA Stages 2 – 4.
Trigon developed a RIBA Stage 2 Outline Fire Safety Strategy to demonstrate how the development will meet the functional requirements of Part B of Schedule 1 of the Building Regulations.
The Fire Safety Strategy report produced, during RIBA Stage 3, also addressed the fire safety implications of The London Plan (March 2021) in turn.
Results
Early coordination with the design team helped to ensure that the central accommodation stair, passing through a compartment floor, was able to remain open and a central focus of the development. Trigon worked closely with the project’s architects to ensure that the safety of those in and around the school was considered throughout each stage without altering the design intent or functionality.
