Scope

Trigon was appointed to work with 5th Studio and a design team to design a Pump House, next to the river Cam, which will house the technology required to harvest heat from the river to provide low-carbon heating and hot water for the College’s central Cambridge estate as part of their wider decarbonisation strategy. The Pump House will accommodate necessary equipment including heat pumps, filtration equipment, thermal stores, etc. and will also include an outdoor viewing space at the ground floor.

Our responsibilities included:

  • Undertaking a feasibility study and qualitative design review (QDR) in accordance with BS 7974.

  • Liaising with the design team and Approval Authorities.

  • Reviewing and supporting the design proposals and summarizing the approach in a RIBA Stage 4 (Technical Design) fire safety strategy report.

Results

Trigon produced a fire safety strategy addressing a unique design and setting out how the functional requirements of the Building Regulations would be met.
