Scope

Trigon was appointed by Ramboll UK to support the design development and prepare a detailed fire safety strategy for the redevelopment of a number of buildings at the 42-acre site located in South Cambridgeshire.

The initial phase of the project involved the redevelopment of existing office buildings into Class A Buildings for Life Science Innovation. The new fitted plus lab spaces, integrated offices, and lifestyle amenities will be located across multiple Class A properties.

Trigon worked closely with the design team to achieve the architectural intent whilst proposing fire safety measures that could be incorporated within the constraints of the existing building. The design team wanted to ensure sustainability was at the heart of the proposals, this included reusing existing building fabric to achieve this.

Our responsibilities for the entire fire safety strategy include:

  • Develop a robust fire safety strategy addressing project specific arrangements.

  • Support the team through Building Regulations approval to create a fire safety strategy that enables future flexibility whilst maintaining significant portions of the existing building fabric.

  • Ongoing advice during construction to assist the team where alternative fire safety approaches needed to be developed to address existing issues.

Results

Trigon worked closely with the client, architect, engineers and wider design team to meet the project specific goals. Trigon has worked with the team providing initial early support identifying initial design risks, producing fire safety strategies through the RIBA Stages, and supporting with contractors onsite queries.

Throughout the design process, Trigon partnered with the team to resolve fire safety issues and meet the project's unique objectives.
