The Bindery, London

Client

Dorrington Plc is an established property investor and developer. The company, founded in 1936, is active in both the commercial and residential property sectors. Dorrington’s ‘hands-on’ approach allows them to invest in attractive buildings and create the very best in class workplaces and homes.

Scope

Trigon was appointed to develop the fire safety strategy for The Bindery located on Hatton Garden in Farringdon. The Bindery comprises the creation of a new, 7-storey office development, created within an existing 1930s Art Deco building, built on the site of a book-binding business, and involved the vertical extension and redevelopment of the existing building.

Trigon’s responsibilities included:

  • Attending site to assess the provision and condition of the existing fire safety arrangements to evaluate how the extension would impact on the existing provisions.

  • Carrying out a preliminary feasibility review and preparing a set of marked-up drawings identifying the key fire safety issues and proposing possible design solutions, including upgrading the existing stair.

  • Developing a detailed fire safety strategy, suitable for submission to the approval authorities, that also met the client’s design aspirations.

Results

Trigon worked closely with the client, the design team and all other stakeholders to successfully deliver a fire safety strategy that satisfied the client’s needs and provides a safe environment for the occupants of the building.
