My Career Start as a Graduate Fire Engineer - By Freya Stewart Grant
“I have really enjoyed starting my career as a Graduate Fire Engineer at Trigon. While the transition from university to the workplace has been a big change, having such a supportive, friendly team has made the move much easier!
Since joining Trigon, I’ve had the chance to work on many exciting projects. The variety of sectors Trigon works in challenges me to apply my knowledge in different ways, to develop unique solutions for projects. From drafting fire safety strategies for a small dwelling house, to a large mixed use industrial development, I’m constantly learning something new!
I’ve enjoyed being given responsibility from day one, including direct involvement on projects and with clients. Because of Trigon’s Quality Assurance Policy, my work as a graduate is checked by two engineers, including a Chartered Engineer, before being sent to the client. Learning on the job and being actively engaged in the industry has meant I have been faced with unexpected and unusual challenges. Learning in this way has caused my work to be both engaging and varied.
I’m encouraged to explore areas of the business that I find particularly interesting. This has included leading our Carbon Neutral Business status renewal with Carbon Neutral Britain. I was excited to be asked so early on into joining Trigon to lead this project as, not only does this align with my personal core values, but it demonstrates to me how much trust Trigon had in me from day one.
Trigon’s culture encourages continued learning and professional development. This is fostered through weekly Continued Professional Development meetings; quarterly Technical Training Days as well as allowing us to explore training, events or research topics, following our curiosity. This is not only important for Trigon as an organization in an ever evolving industry, but is also a huge benefit to our personal career development.
The best part of working at Trigon has been the team. It’s a welcoming group where everyone is always willing to share their knowledge and work collaboratively on projects. As I’m still in the early stages of my career, having that kind of support has been invaluable. I’ve felt encouraged every step of the way, and it’s been great to work alongside experienced professionals who are passionate about what they do.
Looking ahead, I’m genuinely excited for what the future holds. There are so many opportunities to grow within fire engineering, and I’m confident Trigon is the right place for me!”
