Louie Elkington, Graduate Fire Engineer
“My first three months as a Graduate Fire Engineer at Trigon have exceeded all expectations I had for a graduate role. Having studied Environmental Geoscience at the University of Southampton, I initially did not anticipate there being much application of my degree within the fire safety industry.
On my first day, I was already supporting a colleague with the renewal of the company’s carbon-neutral status, while also being involved in a mixture of live and prospective projects. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work closely with colleagues across all offices, regularly collaborating through meetings, calls and team training days. This has made the company feel highly connected and supportive, despite being spread across multiple locations.
Trigon has provided me with exceptional opportunities for continuous professional development, both internally and externally, and every team member has access to the support they need at all times. In just three months, my knowledge of the fire engineering industry has grown exponentially. With ongoing guidance from my mentor, as well as support from both junior and senior colleagues, learning about and applying fire engineering in my day-to-day work is becoming increasingly seamless.
I can already point out buildings across London that I have visited or contributed to, which is an incredibly rewarding feeling. Trigon truly values individuals from diverse educational backgrounds, recognising the strength that different perspectives bring to a wide range of challenges. In an industry that is continuously striving to become more sustainable, Trigon provides an environment where I can develop both as a fire safety engineer and as a person. I am excited to see how my role, and the company as a whole, continues to grow.”
