My First Year as a Graduate Fire Engineer - By Hannah Williams

“I’ve really enjoyed my first year working as a graduate fire engineer at Trigon. Coming from a Maths background, with no engineering experience, I didn’t know what to expect when I first joined.

From day one, I was contributing to live projects. I was supported by two senior engineers on each project, which meant I received continuous feedback and guidance that accelerated my learning.

I’ve learned so much over the last year, and feel inspired by the expertise and passion of the team. Participating in the Trigon Training Programme alongside my project work has helped reinforce everything I’ve learned, and my manager and mentor have helped me map out a route to chartership.

Trigon has supported me both professionally and personally. Whenever I’ve expressed an interest in trying something new or getting involved in a particular type of project, my managers and mentors have gone out of their way to help make it happen. Instead of feeling at a disadvantage for not having an engineering background, I feel valued for having a different skillset – especially when there’s an opportunity to apply my maths knowledge.

When I expressed a desire to relocate to Edinburgh, I was fully supported throughout the process. The team made the transition smooth and showed genuine care for my well-being, which made the move so much easier.

I’m really excited about what the future holds. I continue to learn new things every day, and am excited to see my projects through to completion!”
